Judy Moir to front new literary agency in Edinburgh
Judy Moir is delighted to announce that she has formed her own literary agency, the Judy Moir Agency, based in Edinburgh, where she will represent a select range of writers, with the emphasis on Scottish talent.
Judy has worked in publishing since 1981, most recently running the Penguin office in Scotland. For many years she was at Canongate, initially as editorial and rights manager and latterly as Editorial Director. She is perhaps best known for discovering and nurturing many fine Scottish authors, including Michel Faber, Kevin MacNeil, Louise Welsh and James Robertson. She was Director of the Scottish Publishers Association in the 1980s and lectured in publishing at Napier University in the early 1990s.
She is also delighted to be sharing an office with the distinguished agent, Maggie McKernan in offices at Gayfield Square in Edinburgh. Television and film rights will be handled by the renowned London Agency, Capel & Land, and all other rights will be handled from Edinburgh.
James Robertson (author of The Testament of Gideon Mack) said:
‘As my editor at Penguin, Judy combined sensitivity with detailed accuracy and a shrewd ability to see the bigger picture. As someone with a vast experience of the book trade, in Scotland and further afield, she will make a superb agent, and her many skills and qualities will be indispensable to the authors she represents.’
Judy Moir said:
‘I’m very excited about this new chapter in my publishing career – it has always been an immense honour to work closely with authors and to champion their writing, and being an agent allows me the greatest freedom to do so.’
Maggie McKernan said:
‘I’ve long admired Judy’s work as an editor and am excited to be working alongside her here in Edinburgh. I’m confident she will be the finest advocate for Scottish writers.’
