John Aberdein was born in Aberdeen. He has been a teacher, a fisherman, and a political campaigner. He currently lives in Orkney. He has written short stories, one of which, 'Moving', was a prize-winner in the Scotsman & Orange Short Story Awards in 2004. He has published one novel, the critically acclaimed Amande's Bed, which won the Saltire First Book Award in 2005. He is currently working on a new novel, provisionally entitled Making a Spectacle.
