No Text Belinda Seaward is a writer and teacher who began her career as a journalist working for newspapers in Devon and Somerset. She spent ten years living in Africa, where her second novel, Hotel Juliet is set. She was born in 1952 in Redruth and until recently taught at a boy's school in Devon.

Hotel Juliet Featured Title Hotel Juliet is set in Africa in a vividly rendered but unspecified newly independent state: a country where old ways and new ways, white and black, are coming uneasily to reconciliation. It’s a timeless story in many ways, a classic account of passion and jealousy, of two men and one woman, struggling to survive in a changing world and struggling to confront their true feelings about each other. The woman, Elise, comes to Africa as a young girl, fresh out of university, with her husband Paul. She leaves without Paul, but with a small child, appropriately called Memory. It’s in Memory’s attempts to piece together the family story, and to understand how she came to be living in London, that the doomed love tangle of Paul, Max and Elise is unwound.

It’s wonderfully readable and exquisitely written. Hotel Juliet, incidentally, is the name of the plane which figures to great effect in the love story at the heart of the book.
